The unknown women was buried in a common grave at Welford Road Cemetery on 18th August 1864. She was one of the first two buried in the plot. She was buried on the same day with a still born child. The child of Mary Burdett who lived on Humberstone Road.
There are seven other souls buried with her, all infants. Ranging from still born to three months old. Two of the babies in the plot are twins. In 1925 the plot became freehold/family grave when a gentleman called Thomas Yale aged 75 was buried.
The grave is in the unconsecrated section of the cemetery, facing University Road.

The Moore family of Tunnel Cottage, Glenfield

Just doing extra research on the Moore’s. I wanted to know what happened to Elisabeth really, but as usual, I end up researching the whole family.

Joseph Moore was born on 9 October 1817 in Glenfield and was married to Mary who was also born in Glenfield in 1820.

In the 1841 census, their address was just written as Glenfield, but the description of where they were living was this –

North of the public road leading out of the Turnpike Road from Ashby de la Zouch to Kirby Muxloe”.

Altogether Joseph and Mary (sounds very biblical) had eleven children.

  1. Susannah      b:1840

  2. Thomas         b:1842

  3. Samuel          b:1846

  4. Henry           b:1848

  5. Joseph          b: 1850

  6. Edwin           b: 1852

  7. Elisabeth       b:1855

  8. Cornelius      b: 1858

  9. Feilding       b: 1860

  10. Vincent       b: 1862

  11. Walter        b: 1864

They didn’t always live in Glenfield. Joseph worked on the railways and before moving to Tunnel Cottage in Glenfield, the family lived near the old Bow Bridge in Leicester. Either on Bridge Street or Bow Bridge Street near the canal. They lived in Tunnel Cottage for over ten years
